Alexander Knaak

Biography

Born in Dortmund, Alexander Knaak received his first violin lessons at the age of seven. As a young student, he began his studies at the music academy in Dortmund with Wolfgang Rausch, which he continued with Ulf Hoelscher at the Karlsruhe University of Music, graduating with distinction. He was also a scholarship holder of the Villa Musica Foundation in Mainz and attended numerous master classes, including those with Salvatore Accardo, Thomas Brandis and Rainer Kussmaul. He has also won prizes at various national and international competitions, such as the Julio Cardona International Violin Competition in Portugal.

Since 2003 Alexander Knaak has been assistant principal of the first violinist in the SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart and since 2006 leader of the Serenus Quartet, with whom he made his debut in 2019 at the Brucknerhaus Linz (Austria). Chamber music concerts have taken him to Brazil and Japan. In 2022 he performed the premiere of Maurizio Sotelo’s double concerto for two violins and choir “Estelas en la mar…“ with violinist Soo Eun Lee and the SWR Vokalensemble in Linz and Stuttgart. In 2023 he was invited to the “Busan Cultural Center Chamber Music Festival“ in South Korea.
